The Scottish Peace Platform (SPP) is a groundbreaking initiative funded by the Scottish Government to connect, coordinate, and amplify Scotland’s vibrant peace sector. Guided by principles of feminist, inclusive, and independent peacebuilding, the SPP aims to increase the collective impact of its members’ work and to create opportunities for strategic engagement in peacebuilding activities, both within and outside Scotland.
The SPP is a member-owned and -led Platform governed by an inclusive Advisory Board made up of its members. Members work across different levels of peacebuilding and peacemaking, including academic institutions, civil society organisations, international non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and as individuals, amongst others. The goal of the SPP is to network and cohere a growing group of diverse Scottish organisations and individuals focused on peace through member events and by sharing best practice and new research on peacebuilding. The SPP does not fund its members, nor endorse, limit, comment on its members’ specific objectives and policies. All members are required to sign up to its Code of Conduct. The work of the SPP is jointly supported and facilitated by a SPP Secretariat consisting of Beyond Borders Scotland (BBS), a non-partisan organisation for global dialogue and peacebuilding, in partnership with peace and conflict resolution experts from the University of Edinburgh Law School (ELS). The Secretariat provides technical support
and expert advice on the SPP’s potential future development to both the Advisory Board and Scottish Government.
The SPP was designed by BBS and ELS, in consultation with a variety of stakeholders from across the sector in Scotland, during an Inception Period approved by the Scottish Government which ran from March – August 2025 and launched in September 2025.
